Basketball Recap: Bonita Vista Comes Up Short

Bonita Vista lost against Mater Dei Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Bonita Vista Barons fell just short of the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders by a score of 56-53. The Barons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Bonita Vista saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jerry Stokes went 5 of 10 en route to 16 points along with six assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Owens, who posted 14 points along with six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Bonita Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Dei Catholic only posted one assist.

Mater Dei Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ari Krasniqi led the charge by putting up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Davaughn Hueitt, who had 15 points and six rebounds.

Bonita Vista's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Mater Dei Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Madison the next time they take the court. Bonita Vista will head out to face Madison at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Mater Dei Catholic will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
