Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. Wayne Country Day Chargers

The Hoggard Vikings will be playing at home against the Wayne Country Day Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoggard has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 186 points over their last three contests.

Hoggard has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 41 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat West Bladen 60-12 at home. With Hoggard ahead 36-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Sarah Elgart and Tristan Shivers were among the main playmakers for Hoggard as the former scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals and the latter scored 13 points along with 7 assists and 7 steals. The game was Shivers' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Chance (XP), who scored 8 points along with 3 steals.

Meanwhile, Wayne Country Day struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (South Central had 1000% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wayne Country Day took a serious blow against South Central, falling 58-31. While losing is never fun, Wayne Country Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while South Central is ranked 57th).

Despite the defeat, Wayne Country Day saw an underclassman step up: Jada Vanderhorst dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Vanderhorst scored a full 54.8% of Wayne Country Day's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Hoggard's win pushed their record up to 3-0, while West Bladen's loss dropped theirs down to 0-3.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hoggard have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wayne Country Day struggles in that department as they've been even better at 35 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
