Basketball Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Stony Point Tigers

McNeil is 1-9 against Stony Point since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The McNeil Mavericks will look to defend their home court against the Stony Point Tigers at 7:00 p.m.

McNeil is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were outmatched by Round Rock and fell 65-37. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 856th, while the Dragons are ranked 135th).

Meanwhile, Stony Point had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They really took it to the Rangers for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-41 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Stony Point has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 20 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.9 points per game. As for McNeil, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-22.

McNeil was dealt a bruising 100-39 loss at the hands of Stony Point in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stony Point's Landon Short, who went 11 for 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 37 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
