Recap: Lower Richland Diamond Hornets vs. Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins
If The Lower Richland Diamond Hornets were feeling good off their 49-7 takedown of the Swansea Tigers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lower Richland was just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 22-21 to Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Lower Richland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Orangeburg-Wilkinson apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Despite the loss, Lower Richland still got an impressive performance from Lamarion Pearson, who rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown.
Lower Richland's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Gilbert and 8-2 Ridge View (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.3% over those games). As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lower Richland will take on Dreher at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they will head out on the road to face off against Swansea at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Swansea is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
