Preview: Palmetto Ridge Bears vs. Fort Myers Green Wave
Palmetto Ridge and Fort Myers are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Palmetto Ridge Bears' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Fort Myers Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Palmetto Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 349 points over their last five matches.
Palmetto Ridge extended their postseason success on Saturday against Gulf Coast. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sharks and snuck past 58-55. Given Palmetto Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Gulf Coast is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmetto Ridge had a senior duo take command as Calven Charles dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds and Sean Gomez scored 13 points along with five rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Charles has scored at least a third of Palmetto Ridge's points. Another player making a difference was Jeriah Muldrow, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fort Myers ended up a good deal behind Charlotte on Saturday and lost 55-38. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fort Myers in their matchups with Charlotte: they've now lost five in a row.
Palmetto Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season. As for Fort Myers, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
Palmetto Ridge skirted past Fort Myers 50-48 in their previous matchup back in January. Does Palmetto Ridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fort Myers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
