Baseball Game Preview: Newsome Wolves vs. Plant City Raiders

The Newsome Wolves will face off against the Plant City Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newsome's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Plant City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Newsome is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Alonso, sneaking past 3-2. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Ravens recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

ROBBIE DIPIETRO looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Newsome's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was OCEAN COZART, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Plant City hadn't done well against Strawberry Crest recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Raiders walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Chargers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

The result came thanks to Hagan Smith's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Cothren, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Newsome's record is now 18-6. As for Plant City, their record now sits at 16-11.

Newsome couldn't quite finish off Plant City when the teams last played back in March and fell 2-0. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
