Basketball Recap: Nelson County Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Nelson County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Appomattox County Raiders 65-63. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 69-52 two weeks ago.

Nelson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Giles, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Giles is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 12 games he's played. Aiden Carter was another key player, going 6-for-13 to rack up 18 points and six assists.

Nelson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Appomattox County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Owen Chavis, who went 8-for-14 on his way to 23 points and five boards, and Cam Flythe, who went 5-for-8 en route to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. Those six assists gave Flythe a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Coleman, who posted 12 points.

Nelson County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Appomattox County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.

Looking ahead, Nelson County will be playing at home against Gretna at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Nelson County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for Appomattox County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 53-48 win against Dan River on the 18th.
