Basketball Recap: Greensburg Takes a Loss

Greensburg played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Shelbyville Golden Bears, falling 77-56. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 63rd).

Despite the loss, Greensburg still got an impressive performance from Jacoby Miller, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Mckinsey, who posted nine points.

Shelbyville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Claxton out in front who had 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That's the most steals Claxton has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Mar Nicholson, who made all 5 shots he took to post 16 points.

Greensburg has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Shelbyville, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greensburg will welcome Batesville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shelbyville, they will host Columbus East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelbyville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season.
