Softball Recap: Tooele Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Tooele ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Murray Spartans 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buffaloes have posted since March 11th.

Kenni Molgard spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dakota-Sky Gallaher was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Nelson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Tooele kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Tooele has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Murray, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Tooele will take on rival Park City at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Murray is set to square off against their familiar foe Cottonwood at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
