Volleyball Recap: San Diego Vaqueros vs. Refugio Bobcats

San Diego was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell just short of the Refugio Bobcats by a score of 3-2. The Vaqueros were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

San Diego actually scored more points across those five sets (103-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Leading Refugio to victory were Bradi Fox-Smith and Jazaelynne Lewis. Fox-Smith had 20 kills, 20 digs, and 12 assists, while Lewis had 20 digs, 11 kills, and two blocks. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had four or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Aiyanna Brown, who had 19 digs.

San Diego's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Refugio, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Diego will venture away from home to take on Falfurrias at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. San Diego is facing Falfurrias at the right time seeing as Falfurrias is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Refugio, they will head out to square off against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
