Martinsburg hasn't had much luck against Washington recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Martinsburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on East Hardy with a sharp 15-2 win on Wednesday. The Bulldogs not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024 (when they won 18-5).
Martinsburg got a great performance from Madison Rogers as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, Rogers posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March.
At the plate, Daysha Cook and Malayja Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Cook got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Williams went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Cook has posted since back in March of 2024. DJ Houser was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Martinsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Hardy only posted a batting average of .143.
Meanwhile, Washington faced Morgantown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots never let the Mohigans get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. Considering the Patriots have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Zoe Kesterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Bibb, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Carly Constantino, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Martinsburg and bumps their season record up to 3-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Washington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Martinsburg suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Washington in their previous meeting on April 1st. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
