Softball Game Preview: Goodhue Wildcats vs. Southland Rebels

The Goodhue Wildcats will head out to square off against the Southland Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Goodhue will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Goodhue turned things around against Kenyon-Wanamingo on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Knights. Considering the Wildcats have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Voth was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Nelson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lola Christianson, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Goodhue kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Southland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Cardinals.

Goodhue's record is now 7-13. As for Southland, their record now sits at 20-5.

Goodhue suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Southland when the teams last played last Friday. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
