Basketball Recap: Pamlico County Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Pamlico County couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell to the Wake Prep Academy Guardians 56-51.

When it comes to explaining why Pamlico County lost on Tuesday, don't look at Sydney Whitley-Reese. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 29 points and 17 rebounds. That's the most boards Whitley-Reese has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Nya Clark, who had 15 points and three steals.

Wake Prep Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Abriella Waige out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Waige continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Zanasha Bolden was another key player, putting up nine points and seven steals.

Pamlico County's defeat dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Wake Prep Academy, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 23-3.

Pamlico County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wake Prep Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Perquimans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Perquimans is on a 17-game streak of home wins, Wake Prep Academy a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
