Soccer Game Preview: Sunnyslope vs. O'Connor

The Sunnyslope Vikings will challenge the O'Connor Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyslope will be strutting in after a victory while O'Connor will be coming in after a loss.

Sunnyslope will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Camelback on Friday. Sunnyslope put the hurt on Camelback with a sharp 5-2 win. Considering the Vikings have won four games by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, O'Connor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Boulder Creek, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Jaguars are ranked 20th).

Sunnyslope is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four matchups. As for O'Connor, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Sunnyslope beat O'Connor 2-0 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunnyslope since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
