Basketball Recap: Vanguard Classical East Takes a Loss

After flying high against Varsity Opponent on Thursday, Vanguard Classical East came back down to earth. The Hawks fell 60-48 to the KIPP Denver Collegiate White Tigers on Monday.

Despite the loss, Vanguard Classical East saw an underclassman step up: freshman James Coleman posted 25 points and three steals. The contest was Coleman's fourth in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Levi Watkins, who had eight points.

Vanguard Classical East's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for KIPP Denver Collegiate, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Vanguard Classical East and Lotus School For Excellence will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for KIPP Denver Collegiate, they will challenge STEM School Highlands Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The White Tigers will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
