Millbrook takes loss despite strong efforts from Aaliyah Graham and Maika Jones

Recap: Millbrook Wildcats vs. Sanderson Spartans

The Millbrook Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Sanderson by a score of 53-51. Millbrook was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sanderson apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2021.

Maika Jones and Aaliyah Graham certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Jones dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Graham scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Graham scored a full 25.5% of Millbrook's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grace Bardeen was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Millbrook were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Sanderson was led to victory by Amyah Lynn and Summer Haith. Lynn scored 21 points along with six steals, while Haith scored 31 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The game was Haith's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Sayre, who scored no points along with four steals.

Millbrook bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Sanderson, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.

Millbrook won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Independence at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. Independence is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 70.1 points per game.
