Basketball Recap: Reagan Piles Up the Points Against Miami Beach

Reagan's and Miami Beach's game on Thursday was close at halftime, but Reagan turned on the heat in the second half with 38 points. The Reagan Bison really took it to the Miami Beach Hi-Tides for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-43 win. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Hi-Tides are ranked 293rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Reagan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sebastian Gonzalez, who posted 21 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance also gave Gonzalez a new career-high in steals (four). Another player making a difference was Ronal Hodelin, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 17 boards.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Reagan was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Reagan pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Miami Beach, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reagan won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Downtown Doral at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Downtown Doral is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season. As for Miami Beach, they will also get right back to it: they'll take on North Miami at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Miami will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Miami Beach surely won't give up without a fight.
