Volleyball Recap: Fairmont Firebirds vs. Centerville Elks
Fairmont managed to slip by Centerville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Firebirds lost 3-0 to the Elks on Thursday. The Firebirds' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
While Fairmont was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-10, 25-9.
Sloane Moore paced Fairmont's offense, picking up six kills. Moore got some help from Sofia Coovert and her eight assists. Finally, Mya Vander-Woude kept Fairmont's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centerville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hadley Heil, who had 11 digs and three aces. Heil has been hot recently, having posted three or more aces the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly Horky, who had seven digs and two aces.
Fairmont's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Centerville, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home.
