Softball Recap: Cambridge Bobcats vs. Bellaire Big Reds

Cambridge had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it five. They fell just short of the Bellaire Big Reds by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Big Reds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 on April 2nd.

Laney Harper was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Harper was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Miranda Cole was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

As for Bellaire, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-8 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 13, 2024.

On Bellaire's side, Addison Kovach was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emilee Menendez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Cambridge will head out to face off against Union Local at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bellaire, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harrison Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Big Reds' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
