Baseball Recap: Weaver Comes Up Short

Weaver had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it seven. They lost 12-0 to the Wolcott RVT Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Beavers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Weaver saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dennis Marrero, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Marrero has hit this season.

As for Wolcott RVT, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Wolcott RVT's side, Jason Rehben made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rehben has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jason Miller was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Coming up, Weaver will head out on the road to take on Somers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wolcott RVT, they will host Cheney Tech at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
