Softball Recap: Chimacum Comes Up Short

Chimacum had lost 14 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it 15. They fell 25-20 to the Tenino Beavers. That's two games in a row now that the Cowboys have lost by exactly five runs.

As for Tenino, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-15. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Tenino's part, Katen Burkhardt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Burkhardt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Macie Scharber was a standout: she went 4-for-7 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Preslee Fisher, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and three RBI.

Coming up, Chimacum will be playing at home against Vashon Island at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.4 runs per game on average), something the Cowboys will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tenino, they will square off against Napavine at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Beavers surely won't give up without a fight.
