Javier Yepiz Galindo was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Tegin Maloney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
New Mexico Military Institute was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ruidoso). They put the hurt on Bosque with a sharp 32-15 win on Thursday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ruidoso got a massive performance out of Joel Ortega, who went 5-for-6 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles. Ortega also brought in three RBI, which is notable because the Warriors are undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Anthony McAlister, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs.
New Mexico Military Institute pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Ruidoso, their win bumped their record up to 11-13.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Mexico Military Institute has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Ruidoso struggles in that department as they've averaged .511. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Mexico Military Institute came out on top in a nail-biter against Ruidoso in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
