Basketball Recap: Coventry Wins High-Profile Match Against Westerly

On Friday, Coventry faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The stars were shining brightly for the Coventry Oakers in a 63-44 victory over the Westerly Bulldogs. The win was familiar territory for the Oakers who have now won three matchups in a row.

Leading Coventry to victory were Tyler Broady and Brayden Martin. Broady shot 5-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds, while Martin went 10 of 14 on his way to 21 points along with seven assists and four steals. The game was Martin's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Whited, who posted six points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Braymen, who put up 11 points. Braymen is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Easton French, who posted nine points.

Coventry's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Westerly, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coventry didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-48 win against East Greenwich on the 23rd. As for Westerly, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 70-52 victory against Prout on the 23rd.
