Baseball Game Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. San Ramon Valley Wolves

For the first time this season, Foothill will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Wednesday. They will venture away from home to challenge the San Ramon Valley Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Foothill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Foothill is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Rocklin just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 7-2 to the Thunder. The loss put an end to the Falcons' undefeated start to the season.

Foothill got a good showing from Dean Collins, who tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Collins a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Meanwhile, San Ramon Valley owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They skirted past Rodriguez 2-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolves as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

San Ramon Valley also got a great performance from Bryce Monte as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Monte also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because San Ramon Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise.

At the plate, San Ramon Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Tsunemoto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

San Ramon Valley's record now sits at 3-4. As for Foothill, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

San Ramon Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. It's a different story for San Ramon Valley, though, as they've only averaged .330. Will they be able to contain Foothill's hitters?
