Aurora Central Catholic and Aurora Christian are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Chargers will head out to take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Aurora Central Catholic 3.8, Aurora Christian 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Aurora Central Catholic barely beat Woodstock the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Blue Streaks on Thursday. Considering the Chargers have won six games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Liam Schwartz looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Aurora Central Catholic got a massive performance out of Jackson Michels, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Curry, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Aurora Central Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodstock only posted a batting average of .235.
Meanwhile, Aurora Christian waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 8-5.
Jack Burns made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Noah Hensley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
Aurora Central Catholic's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Aurora Christian, their record now sits at 7-2.
Aurora Central Catholic's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Chargers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Aurora Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Aurora Central Catholic continue to outrun the ball?
Aurora Central Catholic skirted past Aurora Christian 6-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
