Basketball Game Preview: Southside Sharks vs. Donaldsonville Tigers

The Southside Sharks and the Donaldsonville Tigers will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Southside is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 66-36 stomp they got against White Castle. The win was familiar territory for the Sharks who have now won five contests in a row.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Donaldsonville beat Thibodaux 67-62 on Friday. Given Donaldsonville's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Thibodaux is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southside better focus on containing Quinnton Dabney and Skyler Garrison as the pair were huge in Donaldsonville's win. Dabney went 7 for 13 on his way to 21 points, while Garrison almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The game was Dabney's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Tahj Williby was another key player, going 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points.

Southside is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Donaldsonville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
