Volleyball Game Preview: Roy Royals vs. Bear River Bears

The Roy Royals will head out on the road to face off against the Bear River Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Roy came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to Box Elder. The Royals have struggled against the Bees recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-16, 25-10.

Meanwhile, Bear River came up short against Ridgeline on Thursday, falling 3-0.

While Bear River was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Ridgeline's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-16.

Roy's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Bear River, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Roy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4 aces per game. However, it's not like Bear River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything went Roy's way against Bear River in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Roy made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
