Baseball Game Preview: Pomona Red Devils vs. Bassett Olympians

For the second straight game, Pomona will face off against Bassett. The Red Devils will square off against the Olympians at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Considering Pomona has lost three straight at home and Bassett ten straight on the road (dating back to last season), this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.

Pomona is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Bassett 18-3 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Red Devils as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Emmanuel Campos tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pomona is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Pomona let Ivan Lopez and Noah Zayas run wild. Lopez got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Zayas went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Lopez has become a key player for Pomona: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Michael Huguez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Pomona now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Bassett, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.
