Preview: St. Anne's-Belfield Saints vs. Collegiate Cougars
St. Anne's-Belfield is 10-0 against Collegiate since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The St. Anne's-Belfield Saints are on the road again and plays the Collegiate Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. St. Anne's-Belfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 23 contests -- so hopefully Collegiate likes a good challenge.
St. Anne's-Belfield stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They breezed by Fork Union Military Academy on the road to the tune of 81-46. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-23.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Anne's-Belfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Connor Lyons, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lyons has scored all season. Chance Mallory was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten assists.
Meanwhile, Collegiate had just enough and edged Christchurch School out 52-49 on Tuesday. Given Collegiate's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Christchurch School is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Anne's-Belfield pushed their record up to 20-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.3 points per game. As for Collegiate, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Everything came up roses for St. Anne's-Belfield against Collegiate when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 90-40 win. Will St. Anne's-Belfield repeat their success, or does Collegiate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
