Basketball Recap: Springport Comes Up Short

Springport was the 58-51 winner over Bronson when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Springport Spartans were dealt a 70-35 defeat at the hands of the Bronson Vikings on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 369th, while the Vikings are ranked 65th).

Bronson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubree Calloway, who went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points along with five assists and five steals. Calloway has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Hathaway, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc to rack up 20 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Springport and nudges their season record down to 7-7. As for Bronson, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.

Springport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-37 win against Maple Valley on the 11th. As for Bronson, they have also already played their next contest, a 59-40 victory against Quincy on the 11th.
