Baseball Recap: Darlington Comes Up Short

Darlington extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fennimore Golden Eagles. The Redbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Fennimore, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.0 runs this season.

For Fennimore's part, Tyson Starkey and Ethan Sheckler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Starkey struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Sheckler pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Starkey went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Sheckler went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits Starkey has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macoy Miles, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Darlington will challenge Mineral Point at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fennimore, they will take on Bangor at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
