Baseball Recap: San Marcos Takes a Loss

San Marcos suffered their biggest loss since April 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 8-1 to the Ventura Cougars. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Royals' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

San Marcos got a good showing from Brett Hollowell, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hollowell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Landon Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Levi Monson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

San Marcos' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-6. As for Ventura, the win got them back to even at 4-4-1.

While San Marcos had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
