Basketball Recap: East Gaston Takes a Loss

East Gaston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets, falling 68-28. The Warriors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellow Jackets from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

East Gaston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Maiers, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Sides, who earned eight points.

Leading Bessemer City to victory were Tionna Pettus and Kionna Pettus. Tionna dropped a triple-double on 46 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 steals, while Kionna dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 boards, and ten assists. The contest was Tionna's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Addison Carpenter, who had two points and three steals.

East Gaston's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Bessemer City, their record now sits at 8-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Gaston will welcome Cherryville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bessemer City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
