Soccer Game Preview: Centennial vs. Hawthorne

The Centennial Apaches are taking a road trip to take on the Hawthorne Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hawthorne took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Centennial, who comes in off a win.

Centennial's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over Inglewood.

Meanwhile, Hawthorne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Santa Monica. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1092nd, while the Vikings are ranked tenth).

Hawthorne's loss dropped their record down to 1-12-1. As for Centennial, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3-1 and their overall record up to 3-5-1.

Everything went Centennial's way against Hawthorne in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Centennial made off with a 6-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
