Softball Game Preview: Peninsula Seahawks vs. River Ridge Hawks

The Peninsula Seahawks will square off against the River Ridge Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

River Ridge will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Peninsula extended their winning streak to seven on Friday. The Seahawks never let Bellarmine Prep get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Seahawks considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Meanwhile, River Ridge made easy work of Capital on Wednesday and carried off a 14-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won eight in a row.

Jaylah Sok Vandergriff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Kaylani Karageorge was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Eva Lynch was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

River Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

River Ridge's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Peninsula, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.

Peninsula got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against River Ridge by a conclusive 16-2 score. Will the Seahawks repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
