Baseball Game Preview: Spearville Lancers vs. Satanta Indians

Spearville is a perfect 10-0 against Satanta since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lancers will welcome the Indians. One thing working in Spearville's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

Spearville will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Ellis, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lancers blew past the Railroaders 15-6 on Tuesday. While the Lancers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Austin Ruiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Ruiz was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ian Melendez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Danny Alcala was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Spearville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellis only posted a batting average of .240.

Meanwhile, Satanta lost 27-7 to Stanton County on Thursday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Spearville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Satanta, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Spearville's way against Satanta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Spearville made off with a 24-5 victory. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
