Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Salem Hills

It's playoff time, and Salem Hills had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Springville Red Devils on Friday. The Skyhawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 16-1).

The team relied heavily on Guss Johnson, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Salem Hills is 4-1 when Johnson posts three or more RBI, but 7-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaleb DeGraffenried, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Salem Hills lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Salem Hills, bringing their record up to 11-15. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Springville, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-15.

Salem Hills will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Red Devils: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
