Football Game Preview: Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals vs. Wood River Eagles

The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals will venture away from home to challenge the Wood River Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Doniphan-Trumbull sitting on five straight wins and Wood River on four.

On Friday, Doniphan-Trumbull didn't have too much trouble with St. Cecilia as they won 24-7.

Luke Askey was the offensive standout of the game as he picked up 115 receiving yards and one score. Those 115 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

Doniphan-Trumbull didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited St. Cecilia to a completion percentage of just 35.3%. The team can thank Parker Volk for the heroic effort on defense: he. Doniphan-Trumbull hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.53 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Wood River was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They slipped by Superior 42-41. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 20-0 in the second quarter.

Doniphan-Trumbull better keep an eye on Madden Brabec. He was instrumental in Wood River's win, rushing for 132 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 250 yards and a pair of TDs. Brabec showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 60 yards. Wood River's leading receiver Jace Stewart was Brabec's top target yet again, picking up 121 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Doniphan-Trumbull's record now sits at 7-1. As for Wood River, their record is now an identical 7-1.

Doniphan-Trumbull couldn't quite get it done against Wood River in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 as they fell 41-30. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
