Softball Recap: Rickards Comes Up Short

Rickards had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-2 to make it six. They came up short against the Florida State University High School Seminoles, falling 21-1. The matchup marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Florida State University High School, they now have a winning record of 3-2. They have beaten Rickards the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Rickards has come to flipping the script.

For Florida State University High School's part, Preslee Donaldson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Donaldson has posted since back in March of 2025. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Colbie Rushing was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Kayla Sutton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Rickards will square off against Taylor County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 12.4 runs per game this season. As for Florida State University High School, they will face off against North Florida Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
