Basketball Recap: Wiregrass Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tucker Duren and Graysen Ellison

Wiregrass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a 61-43 bruising from the Evangel Christian Lightning. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Lightning are ranked 60th).

Wiregrass' loss came despite strong showings from Graysen Ellison and Tucker Duren. Ellison posted 14 points and six rebounds, while Duren put up 13 points. Those 13 points gave Duren a new career-high.

Evangel Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ben Bugnar led the charge by going 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Walker, who had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Wiregrass' defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Evangel Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wiregrass will square off against Ballard Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wiregrass is facing Ballard Christian at the right time seeing as Ballard Christian is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Evangel Christian, they will face off against Rocket City at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Evangel Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Rocket City likes a good challenge.
