Football Recap: Cardinal Newman Takes a Loss

Cardinal Newman fell victim to Jesuit and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a blow against the Tigers, falling 31-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Crusaders were not able to get on the board.

Jyron Hughley threw for 150 yards on 13 of 24 attempts. Leslie Mosley was his top target, picking up 95 receiving yards. On the ground, Phoenix Donghia rushed for 81 yards.

Leading Jesuit to victory were Hezekiah Davis and Will Griffin. Davis rushed for 141 yards and one score on only ten carries, while Griffin threw for 201 yards and a pair of TDs. Davis got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 97 yards. A healthy portion of Griffin's aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Kaleb Smith, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Cardinal Newman's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Jesuit, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Cardinal Newman and Jesuit will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Crusaders see the field they'll take on Goleman at 7:00 p.m. on October 2. As for Jesuit, their break will end when they face University at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
