Softball Game Preview: Straughn Tigers vs. McKenzie Tigers

Straughn is a perfect 3-0 against McKenzie since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Straughn is taking a road trip to challenge McKenzie at 4:00 p.m. McKenzie took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Straughn, who comes in off a win.

Straughn had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt New Brockton on Thursday. The Tigers never let the Gamecocks get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Gamecocks: they've now won seven in a row.

Julia Harold was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Sammie Strickland looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Adelaide Dunn was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Adalyn Till also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Thursday. McKenzie took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greenville. McKenzie hasn't had much luck with Greenville recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Charissa Bullard was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Straughn now has a winning record of 14-13. As for McKenzie, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Everything went Straughn's way against McKenzie in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Straughn made off with a 12-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Straughn since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
