Football Recap: Seven Duffey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pittsburg over Jefferson

If Pittsburg was riding high fresh off their 45-0 takedown of Grace Community last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Jefferson Bulldogs by a score of 32-29 on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Pirates, who until this match were averaging 15 points allowed.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Seven Duffey, who picked up 80 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 72 yards and one TD. Duffey got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 81 yards. Kord Johnson was another key signal caller, throwing for 208 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.

Even if they lost, Pittsburg's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was William Strube with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made ten or more in each of the last three games he's played. Pittsburg got some further help from Tormarion Willis: he picked up a sack and made 14 total tackles.

Tre Moss was a one-man wrecking crew For Jefferson. as he rushed for 105 yards, and also picked up 34 receiving yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Travis Gray Jr, who picked up 88 receiving yards and one TD.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pittsburg fell to 3-1. As for Jefferson, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pittsburg will host Dallas Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jefferson, they will square off against Gladewater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 890 yards in their previous games.
