Softball Recap: Minerva Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Minerva, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They blew past the Fairless Falcons 14-3 on Friday. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Gabby Kashdan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Kashdan was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Mackenzie French was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Sierra Cress, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Minerva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Minerva's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Fairless, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Minerva Lions face off against Canton South Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairless, they will venture away from home to face off against Sandy Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sandy Valley will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Fairless surely won't give up without a fight.
