Basketball Recap: Navarro Comes Up Short

Navarro played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Wimberley Texans and fell 67-36. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1083rd, while the Texans are ranked 292nd).

It was another big night for Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, who went 9 of 16 en route to 19 points along with eight assists and seven steals for Wimberley. Gumbert-Mendoza's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Wortham, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 18 points.

Navarro has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Wimberley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Navarro has already played their next contest (against Fredericksburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wimberley will be playing at home against Davenport at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Wimberley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Davenport likes a good challenge.
