Softball Recap: Carlmont Scots vs. Woodside Wildcats

Carlmont extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-9-1. They came up short against the Woodside Wildcats, falling 11-2. The Scots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Grace Stiefel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Woodside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-4. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Woodside's side, Hannah Walker made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Walker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Woodside let Elizabeth Severin and Angelina Aranda run wild. Severin went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Aranda went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That home run was Severin's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Carlos, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Carlmont wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-0 loss against Saint Francis on the 1st. Hopefully Woodside paid attention to the Scots' contest: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
