Basketball Recap: Monticello Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Monticello won the last time they faced Beckman and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Monticello Panthers came out on top against the Beckman Trailblazers by a score of 39-31. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monticello is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Beckman, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Monticello Panthers take on the Cascade Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monticello will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Beckman, they will challenge Maquoketa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maquoketa will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Beckman surely won't give up without a fight.
