Recap: Emery Spartans vs. Juab Wasps
If the Emery Spartans were riding high off their 65-26 takedown of the North Sanpete Hawks last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Emery fell 60-50 to Juab on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Emery of the 61-58 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Emery's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aliya Lester, who scored 22 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenadie Maughan, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Emery struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Juab racked up 14 assists.
Juab can attribute much of their success to Lucy Richards, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Richards scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Addison Hyatt, who scored 12 points.
Emery's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Juab, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Emery will be playing in front of their home fans against Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Delta is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Juab, they will head out on the road to face off against Carbon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carbon will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
