Baseball Recap: Basic Has No Trouble Against Mountain Vista

Basic gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by a 10-4 margin over the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Andruw Giles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Basic is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. Giles was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Basic got a great performance from Johnny Villarreal as he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. The dominant performance gave Villarreal a new career-high in strikeouts.

Back at the plate, Lyndon Lee was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tate Southisene, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Basic is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. Mountain Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Basic will square off against Liberty at 3:30 p.m. on March 24th. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season. Mountain Vista will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Chatfield at 4:00 p.m. on March 28th.
