Softball Game Preview: Foothill Knights vs. Crean Lutheran Saints

The Foothill Knights will square off against the Crean Lutheran Saints at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The last four games Foothill has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Foothill sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Yorba Linda.

Capri Gallego spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Makaela Martinez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Abigail Lawson was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Crean Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They came up short against Yorba Linda, falling 19-0.

Foothill's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Crean Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.

Crean Lutheran's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Foothill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Crean Lutheran, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Foothill's sizable advantage in that area, the Saints will need to find a way to close that gap.

Foothill took their victory against Crean Lutheran when the teams last played on April 8th by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
